Beginner Workshop with Camila Alves

This workshop is for the beginner level. Basic knowledge of forró is needed. This workshop is not suited as a first time forró class.

🎉 We are excited to welcome Camila Alves to Amsterdam! Living in Lisbon, Portugal, Camila has shared her knowledge and passion of forró with her signature style across the whole globe.

She started in Forró in 2010 and is a very active teacher since 2012, being known for teaching at numerous festivals and events around the world, developing courses and workshops focused on contemporary topics such as the role of leaders and followers and how they can take a more feminist approach when dancing, encouraging students to dance and expressing themselves however they want. Her career is focused on fighting for both men and women to have the same rights to express themselves through dance.

Camila was involved for many years in the organisation team and in the pedagogical department of different Forró events such as Forró de Lisboa Festival (2013-2015), Festival Pé na Terra (2017 - 2019), Forró Douro Festival (2018-2019), O Fole Roncou Festival (2022), Baião in Lisboa Festival (2017-2022) and Maria Bonita Festival (2017 - present).

Entrepreneur by nature, she studied Business Management with Marketing in London (2013-2016) where her solo career as a forró teacher took off.

Camila is currently the co-owner, pedagogical director and teacher of Espaço Baião, one of the biggest forró schools in Europe based in Lisbon. She also founded in 2019 an online Forró Shop called Xiado da Xinela Shop, providing forró products such as clothes & accessories for both women and men, having as its motto “Be whoever you want to be on the dance floor”.
